Long Synopsis

Rikiya Asai suffers from cerebral palsy and cannot walk or talk like a normal person. His mother Miwako sometimes thought how easy it would be just to let go of the stroller on top of a steep slope near their home and then commit suicide. 

However, Rikiya’s encounter with painting at the age of four changed their lives forever. Through painting Rikiya could finally communicate his thoughts to others. Today his works touch the hearts of thousands of people, and he has held exhibitions not only in Japan, but also in China, Taiwan, San Francisco and New York.

Rikiya’s mother Miwako believes that his son was born for a reason. Every creature given life by God has a task they are meant to perform. Rikiya, now in his thirties, still needs constant care, but is now able to give something back and has become a source of support to the people around him. However, Miwako who is already past the age of 60 constantly worries about Rikiya’s future after she herself has passed away.


In other to find a way to make a living, Rikiya is exploring the use of cloud sourcing to put his painting skills to use in new ways. He had already discovered his calling but now needs to rise to new challenges. Life is an everlasting journey to find one’s calling, and this film reflects on the meaning of the “perfect job” through the life of Rikiya Asai.
